Beach Cleanup Project

On Saturday, 12 September, about 30 community members and expatriates met under the cotton tree at the Robertsport Community Campsite to participate in the first Robertsport Community Beach Cleanup. We split up into teams and with thick leather work gloves and rice bags, picked up plastic and marine debris from Fishermen's Point to Shipwrecks. We collected 28 rice bags in less than 2 hours -- over 500 pounds of trash -- and only had to stop because we ran out of rice bags. We're scaling up our supplies for future cleanups and expect more volunteers as well.

Every first Saturday around 9:00 am we're leading similar cleanups, so please join us or show your support by buying a $15 Cotton Tree t-shirt -- all the proceeds go to our environmental projects. Email Elie to get involved or pick up a shirt!

Collecting trash on the Robertsport beach is just part of a sustainable waste management system for the Robertsport community. Where that waste goes, and whether and how it is reused and recycled, will be the focus of future Robertsport Community Works research, education and projects.
