Elie Losleben is the Program and Communications Director at Robertsport Community Works. Losleben studied Sociology and Comparative Literature at The American University in Cairo and co-founded the Middle East’s first English-language travel magazine before returning to East Africa. She co-created The Dhow Restaurant, a floating restaurant in Zanzibar’s Stone Town, and promoted sustainable tourism with the Tanzanian government., including developing and publish the book series Swahili Style. After four years at UNICEF in New York, working in communications, youth and HIV/AIDS, Losleben was ready to return to Africa. After stumbling upon Magnus Wolfe Murray’s article about Robertsport in Surfer’s Journal and reconnaissance trips to Liberia in 2008, the move to Liberia was made. In addition to her work at Robertsport Community Works, Losleben works as a public health and communications consultant for non-profits and international organizations in Africa. She is also a New York State certified rape crisis counselor and 200-RYT yoga teacher. Before leaving for Liberia, she received a scholarship to Off the Mat, Into the World, where she further refined her vision for Robertsport Community Works and her commitment to sustainable activism. Elie can be contact at elie@robertsportcommunityworks.org and +231-77-339-647. Nathaniel Calhoun is the Partnerships and Operations Director at Robertsport Community Works. Calhoun earned his Masters in Literature at the University of
Pennsylvania in 2001. His experience as a classroom teacher gave him
the opportunity to design curricula in many subjects on three different
continents. He spent ten months traveling overland from northwest
Africa to Mozambique, researching and writing about community-based
initiatives to combat HIV and AIDS. To build on these experiences,
Calhoun returned to the U.S., where he joined icouldbe.org,
a non-profit online mentoring organization, as their Director of
Education. In that capacity, he created a curriculum that is used in
under-resourced public schools to help likely dropouts connect with
volunteer mentors in a structured and productive way. Calhoun recently
incorporated the Consultants for Online Development and Education,
where he supervises and develops a growing number of online programs,
including serving as Global Coordinator for UNICEF’s Connecting
Classrooms initiatives. Since moving to Liberia, Calhoun is also
focused on creating and directing Robertsport Community Works with
Elie Losleben. He can be reached at nathaniel@robertsportcommunityworks.org or +231-77-288-927. |
